Big C, little e

As you've probably figured out by now, the "little e" in the title of this blog is Emma.  She is classified as a failure to thrive baby, although I prefer to think of her as simply a baby who has difficulty gaining weight. So what, or whom, is "Big C". That would be Emma's big sister, Catie. Catie is four years older than Emma. The two were born around the same size, Catie weighing in at 7lb 8 oz and Emma at 7lb 6oz. As a baby, Catie was always well within the growth charts. She never had any trouble eating, and to this day is still a great eater.
This story is to portray Emma's progress, but I cannot exclude Catie from the story. She is my big girl and just loves her little sister. Emma's eyes light up when she's around, and I think her biggest smiles and talks are reserved for Catie, or her "big sissy" as Catie refers to herself around Emma.

Even from the beginning, Catie has understoon that Emma has trouble gaining weight. When Emma was only a couple months old Catie would ask, "Mommy, how much did Emma drink?" If she drank the whole bottle, Catie would say with praise, "Good job, Emma". When we were in the hospital Catie drew a picture of the family (including our dog Fenwick, he is usually included in the family pictures she draws) and sent it over with her nana to give me. My mother-in-law said that Catie drew it for me because "she knew mommy was sad that Emma wasn't gaining weight".
